Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use blood samples for DNA testing?
The only time that we do a blood draw for a DNA paternity test is for the mom’s portion of a prenatal (NiPP) test, while the baby is still inside of the mom’s belly. The father’s portion of the NiPP test is still the buccal (cheek swab).
Outside of the mom’s portion of a NiPP test, all other paternity testing will use the buccal swab.
Can I come pick up the testing kit?
Unfortunately you aren’t able to pick up the kit we will have to ship it to you.
Can this test be used in court?
Yes, as long as you get a legal DNA test it will be court admissible, meaning you can use it in court any time after you receive the results.
A non-legal test cannot be used in court, it is only used for peace of mind.
Do you offer refunds?
No, we do not give refunds, sales are final. However, we will honor refunds if a test is canceled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. A $50 cancellation fee will still be incurred.
Is it possible to get the test done without the other person knowing?
If you’re coming into the facility that will be difficult since the person will have to provide their ID and there’s no real way to be discreet about that.
However, we do offer home kits which will let you to do the testing at home and mail the samples to the lab. Although this does subtract the need for the person to show you their ID in this scenario, once you attempt to cheek swab them, they will still likely understand what you are trying to do.
We do offer discreet home kits which let you use either the person’s hair or nails instead of a cheek swab. This option cuts out the need for them to show ID and to be cheek swabbed, providing the least likelihood of raising suspicion. However, one drawback to this is option is that the results may come back as inconclusive if the sample you provide us doesn’t have enough of the person’s DNA. A second drawback is that mail-out home kits and discreet home kits are only for non-legal use, they are not court admissible.
Can I pay in cash?
Unfortunately, we do not accept cash. To hold your appointment slot, payment has to be made beforehand.
Can the test be done with somebody besides the father?
Yes, if the alleged father is either missing or refuses to test, we have other options still available to determine paternity.
The first option is known as an Avuncular Test and is done by swabbing the alleged father’s sister or brother.
We also offer the Grandparentage Test, which is done by swabbing the alleged father’s mother or father.
Should a mother be tested also for paternity, avuncular and grandparentage tests?
Although not mandatory, it is recommended that mothers be swabbed for these tests as well as the child and alleged father/s. This is because by adding the mother’s DNA profile, it strengthens the overall DNA profile and prevents an “Inconclusive” result report by the lab. Extra charges will apply.
Can we come in on the weekend to get tested?
Generally, we do not do weekends. However, we may allow a weekend test on a case-by-case basis. Extra charges will apply.
Can one person be tested in one state and the other person be tested in another state?
Yes, it is possible to do cross-state testing as well as testing outside of our normal service area. Extra charges will apply.
The alleged father is incarcerated. Do you do collections at jails or prisons?
We do not go into jails or prisons to make collections. However, an alternative option we can offer is to do an Avuncular or Grandparentage Test. This will require us to swab the alleged father’s sibling or parent.
Do you go to hospitals to make collections?
Yes, we can go to hospitals. Extra charges will apply.
Would you go to my home to make a collection?
Unfortunately, we do not go to homes to make collections, due to safety reasons. However, we can make arrangements to meet up at a nearby business that is close to your home, in order to provide convenience to you.
